HOME BREWED
A site specific, flash mob style piece, performed in a pub or similar social setting. This highly physical, powerful and entertaining performance with its universal theme of identity was originally commissioned by Dance Hub for the Birmingham Weekender festival in October 2019 and we are planning to tour it to festivals and community events.
It was devised and performed by dancers representing some of the diverse cultural backgrounds of the people of Birmingham, each telling different stories of migration, making a new home and putting down roots. It’s a regular weekend afternoon and the pub goes about its business, with customers enjoying a pint and a chat. Suddenly, the performers emerge weaving their way through the space, sparked by the same everyday conversations taking place around them and amplified through movement and spoken word, culminating in a rousing song and dance finale.
